On January 6, 2000, the Jefferson Parish District Attorney's Office filed a bill of information charging defendant, Michael L. Harris, with five counts of distribution of cocaine, in violation of La. R.S. 40:967(A). On January 10, 2000, defendant was arraigned and entered a plea of not guilty to all five counts.

On October 18, 2001, defendant filed a motion to sever the counts against him...
