VERTEFEUILLE, J.

After a jury trial, the defendant was convicted of one count of murder in violation of General Statutes § 53a-54a (a),1 two counts of capital felony in violation of General Statutes (Rev. to 1999) § 53a-54b (8) and (9), respectively,2 and one count of conspiracy to commit murder in violation of General Statutes §§ 53a-54a (a) and 53a-48 (a)
