The defendant, Virgil Lorenzo Smith, was charged by bill of information with possession of cocaine in violation of La. R.S. 40:967C. The offense occurred on March 2, 2001. Defendant pled not guilty. After a jury trial, defendant was found guilty as charged. He was sentenced to three years' imprisonment at hard labor.
