The defendant, Jason Shelton, was convicted of first degree murder (720 ILCS 5/9-1(a)(1) (1996)) and concealment of a homicidal death (720 ILCS 5/9-3.1(a) (1996)). He was sentenced to concurrent terms of fifty and five years' imprisonment, respectively. The conviction was affirmed by this court. People v.
