We consider a proceeding pursuant to G. L. c. 221, § 50, the attorney's lien statute, wherein a default judgment resulted in a substantial recovery for an attorney notwithstanding that his former client had not prevailed in the underlying litigation, thus receiving no proceeds to which the attorney's lien could attach. The former client's motion to set aside the default judgment, see Mass.R.Civ.P. 60...
