In 1999, a jury found petitioner, Henry Johnson, guilty of armed robbery, and he was sentenced to natural life imprisonment. On direct appeal, this court affirmed petitioner's conviction, vacated the sentence of natural life, and remanded for a new sentencing hearing. People v.
