Following a bench trial, defendant, Anthony Boyd, was convicted of first-degree knowing murder (720 ILCS 5/9-1(a)(2) (West 1998)), aggravated battery (720 ILCS 5/12-4(b)(1) (West 1998)), and felony murder predicated on the aggravated battery offense (720 ILCS 5/9-1(a)'(3) (West 1998)).
