On October 23, 2002 Walter Townsend, now age sixty, was convicted of murder in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3a(2). The homicide occurred in 1981. The victim was Townsend's girlfriend, Norma Williams. In March 2003 Townsend was sentenced to a custodial term of thirty years to life. He now appeals his conviction and sentence. We reverse the conviction...
