Following a jury trial in the circuit court of Kane County, defendant, Marcelino Gonzalez, was convicted of one count of attempt (first-degree murder) (720 ILCS 5/8-4(a), 9-1(a)(1) (West 1998)), four counts of aggravated battery with a firearm (720 ILCS 5/12-4.2(a)(1) (West 1998)), and five counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm (720 ILCS 5/24-1.2(a)(2) (West 1998)).
