The appellant, Edwin Elmer Coventry, was convicted of theft of property in the first degree, a violation of § 13A-8-3(a), Ala.Code 1975. He was sentenced, as a habitual offender, to 20 years' imprisonment.

On appeal, Coventry contends that the trial court erred in denying his motion to dismiss the indictment on the ground that he was denied his right to a speedy trial.
