Dr. Melvin Abend performed laparoscopic surgery on Suzanne Estee Mercker to remove her gallbladder in treatment for gallstones. Because of persistent bile leakage thereafter, Mercker underwent multiple repair surgeries. She filed a medical malpractice suit against Abend and his professional corporation, Melvin N.
