The facts surrounding this appeal stem from an automobile accident that occurred on 6 April 1999. While on vacation in Kill Devil Hills, five teenagers were traveling in a single vehicle: Megan Ann Blong, Amanda Marie Geiger, Shana Marissa Lawler, Angela Nicole McGrady, and Michael Horner.
