On October 23, 1981 the defendant was convicted of kidnapping in the first degree (Penal Law § 135.25 [1]) and related crimes. Mr. Bell was sentenced to a term of 20 years to life imprisonment. Briefly, he and two others attempted to rob a man outside of the man's apartment.
