These cases, tried in the Bristol Division of the Juvenile Court Department, concern (a) decrees and judgments that terminated the father's parental rights as to two daughters (Beth and Judith), and placed two other daughters (Georgette and Lucy) in the permanent custody of the Department of Social Services (department)2; and (b) an order denying Georgette and Lucy's motion for a new trial brought pursuant to Mass. R. Civ....
