Plaintiff, the son of a longtime former clubhouse manager for the New York Yankees, began helping his father on a volunteer basis at Yankee Stadium around 1980, at the age of 16. At the start of the 1996 season he was put on the club's payroll as an assistant equipment manager, at $30 per diem.
