On July 20, 1998, at about 5:00 P.M., John Heaton-Jones was knocked off his bicycle by three young men. One of them drew a gun and struck him in the mouth with it, while the others seized the bicycle. All three assailants fled (one with the bicycle) in the direction of Boylston and Amory Streets in the Jamaica Plain section of Boston. The robbery took less than a minute.
