This medical malpractice action against the Louisiana Patient's Compensation Fund stems from one of two consolidated suits filed by the divorced parents of John Blackmon, Jr., a minor child who died following shoulder surgery in May of 1997. During the course of the litigation, one health care provider paid the maximum amount of his liability exposure in settlement of the plaintiffs' claims, and the Fund paid $250,000.00 to John Blackmon, Sr. in settlement...
