On June 12, 2002, Hessie James sued the SouthTrust Corporation and SouthTrust Bank of Russell County (hereinafter jointly referred to as "SouthTrust") in the Russell Circuit Court. James sought compensatory and punitive damages from SouthTrust on claims of conversion, negligence, wantonness, willful misconduct, and fraud.
