¶ 1. At issue in this appeal is whether a record of in-chambers discussions with children must be made by the trial judge. We grant certiorari because this is an issue of first impression and one of broad public importance, as children are often interviewed by judges off-the-record, and frequently these in-chambers discussions weigh heavily in the trial court's decision.
