Joseph Close and James Estes jointly appeal the dismissal of their motion to vacate, set aside, or correct their sentences, brought pursuant to 28 U.S.C. § 2255. Because their motions were filed after the effective date of the Antiterrorism and Effective Death Penalty Act of 1996 ("AEDPA"), Pub.L.
