Defendant, Brandon Cabott Jones, was indicted on 13 September 1999 for the firstdegree murders of Donald James Hunt and Devan Lashawn Bynum, for three counts of kidnapping, for one count of robbery with a dangerous weapon, and for one count of felonious breaking or entering. The trial court dismissed the kidnapping counts at the close of the State's evidence during the guilt-innocence phase of defendant's trial
