Following a jury trial, Kenneth Bernard Starks was convicted of possession of cocaine. He moved for a new trial on the grounds that the court erred in allowing the State to open and conclude closing argument and in denying his motion for mistrial, which arose out of a query by the prosecutor into Starks's criminal past.
