The Georgia Department of Transportation (DOT) filed a condemnation petition in the Superior Court of Chatham County to acquire approximately 378 acres of land for $285,000. DOT wanted the land "to mitigate damages to wetlands being destroyed by the construction" of a nearby state road. The landowner, Southeast Timberlands, Inc.
