Both IDX Systems and Epic Systems make software for use in managing the financial side of a medical practice: billing, insurance reimbursement and other collections, and the like. During the 1980s IDX sold this software package to two medical groups that later merged into the University of Wisconsin Medical Foundation, which now comprises more than 1,000 physicians.
