This case stems from an accident that occurred on February 13, 1998, during the moving of the floats for the Krewe of Atlas Parade. The floats were in a warehouse on Tchoupitoulas Street and had to be moved to the parade staging area in Metairie. The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office provided deputies to escort the float movement.
