STATEMENT OF THE CASE

The defendant, Michael Celestine, was charged by bill of indictment on May 21, 1998, with first-degree murder in violation of La. R.S. 14:30. The defendant pleaded not guilty at his May 26, 1998, arraignment. A twelve-person jury found the defendant guilty as charged on July 19, 2000. On August 24, 2000, the trial court sentenced the defendant to life imprisonment without benefit of probation, parole, or suspension...
