I. INTRODUCTION

In 1996 five people began working at a mining operation near the Dalton Highway. Irregularly paid, they filed suit a year later against three people involved with the mining operation, one or more of whom may have been their employer. Two years after that, in 1999, without telling their attorney, they privately entered into settlement agreements purportedly releasing all involved from further liability...
