Tri Chanh Van Nguyen, the Defendant in this case, was indicted by a Vermilion Parish grand jury on a charge of second degree murder. He pled not guilty and was convicted of manslaughter after a bench trial held November 15 through 17, 2000. On March 26, 2001, a hearing was held on the Defendant's motions for new trial and relief was denied.
