Defendant, Lawrence Herman Reed, was indicted on October 28, 1999, for second degree murder, a violation of La.R.S. 14:30.1. Defendant filed a motion to suppress certain statements made to the arresting authorities. The motion was argued to and denied by the trial court on April 3, 2000. A trial by jury commenced on April 5, 2000, and on April 6, 2000; Defendant was found guilty as charged. On May 1, 2000, Defendant was sentenced
