Justice McDADE delivered the opinion of the court:

James P. Graves (defendant) pled guilty to the unauthorized theft of currency in excess of $10,000 but less than $100,000 (unauthorized theft) pursuant to sections 16-1(a)(1)(A), (b)(5) of the Criminal Code of 1961 (Code) (720 ILCS 5/16-1(a)(1)(A), (b)(5) (West 1998)). The trial court sentenced defendant to 12 years' imprisonment and ordered him to pay $20,000 in restitution.
