In July 1999, Shaun and Sonia Small (the "Smalls"), the minor children of Gary Small, sued William Bradley, alleging negligence and wantonness after they were involved in an automobile accident with Bradley. The Smalls sought compensation for, among other things, their medical expenses, mental anguish, and pain and suffering. Bradley denied the allegations of negligence and wantonness.
