Tried as an adult for the murder of eight-year-old Madelyn Rae Clifton, Joshua Phillips, fourteen years old at the time of the homicide, appeals from both his conviction for first-degree murder and his sentence of life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. We find that no harmful error occurred at trial and affirm his conviction. As for his sentence, Mr. Phillips' primary contention is that his chronological age renders his punishment cruel...
