The defendants, David Emanuel Odle and Andre Ricardo Shaw, were both convicted of attempted possession of cocaine (over 400 grams), in violation of La.R.S. 40:967(F)(1)(c) and La.R.S. 14:27 or La. R.S. 40:979. Odle was sentenced to eighteen years at hard labor and Shaw was sentenced to twenty years at hard labor. Both filed appeals challenging their convictions and sentences.
