The defendant was found guilty of second degree murder and sentenced to life imprisonment at hard labor without benefit of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence. The court of appeal reversed defendant's conviction and sentence on the basis that the trial court failed to thoroughly instruct the jury as to the elements of manslaughter. State v.
