GOLDBERG, Justice.

The defendant, John Sivo (Sivo or defendant), is a former law enforcement officer, having served with the Cranston Police Department as a patrolman for eleven years. In 1972, at the start of that career, Sivo undertook a solemn oath to uphold the law.
