Artis Tamar Perkins (defendant) was indicted for the murder of Louis Santos on 23 October 2000. The evidence presented at trial tended to show the following. Tiyonia Miller (Miller) was walking to defendant's apartment in Raleigh, North Carolina with her baby in her arms on 16 September 2000.
