PROCEDURAL HISTORY

¶ 1. In June 1999, a Bolivar County jury convicted Maurice Gray of murder and aggravated assault. Gray was sentenced to serve a term of life imprisonment for the murder conviction and twenty years imprisonment for the aggravated assault charge, said sentences to run concurrently. Thereafter, Gray filed a motion for new trial or in the alternative a judgment notwithstanding the verdict, which was denied. Aggrieved...
