In 1996, petitioner Alonzo Ferguson was convicted of first-degree premeditated murder and sentenced to life in prison. We affirmed his conviction on direct appeal. Ferguson later petitioned for postconviction relief, but the postconviction court denied the petition without an evidentiary hearing. Ferguson appealed the postconviction decision and then moved this court to stay that appeal because of the discovery of new information...
