In November 1998, defendant, Kirby L. White, was indicted for the offenses of forgery (720 ILCS 5/17-3(a)(2) (West 1998)) and theft by deception (720 ILCS 5/16-1(a)(2)(A)(West 1998)). The indictments alleged, in essence, that, on July 1, 1998, defendant delivered a check to an employee of Sears bearing the forged signature of Willie Wheaton to obtain by deception a lawn mower and weed whacker having a total value...
