In this habeas corpus case the petitioner, John Pecoraro, challenges his state court murder conviction and resulting death sentence. The conviction and sentence were affirmed by the Illinois Supreme Court in People v. Pecoraro, 144 Ill.2d 1, 161 Ill.Dec. 296, 578 N.E.2d 942
