¶ 1. Ronnie McLaughlin was convicted for aggravated assault by a Wayne County Circuit Court jury despite his assertion that the shooting, which he did not deny, was done in self-defense. McLaughlin's trial counsel then sought, by written motion, to have his conviction set aside based upon allegations, among other things, that he had "a severe mental condition."
