Appellant Barnett sued the Jefferson City Area Young Men's Christian Association, Inc. (YMCA) while he was an inmate in the Missouri Department of Corrections. Barnett claimed the wage he was paid under a work release program violated the minimum wage provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
