[¶ 1] When oil was discovered on ranch property owned by Frank and Doris Greenough (the Greenoughs), they sought to share that benefit by conveying royalty interests to their children. The resulting seventy-seven separate assignments each used the terms "royalty interest" and "over-riding royalty," inter alia, in reference to the nature of the interest transferred.
