On January 23, 1998, the defendant, Alvin Banks, was charged with violating La. R.S 14:62 relative to simple burglary of an automobile on November 20, 1997. On January 27, 1998, the defendant entered a plea of not guilty. The court advised the defendant of his right to a judge or jury trial and appointed counsel to represent him.
