The defendant, Richard Vartanian, was convicted under two subsections of 42 U.S.C. § 3631 for interfering with the civil housing rights of three real estate agents and an African American family, by threatening bodily injury and death because of the family's decision to purchase a home in the defendant's previously all-white neighborhood.
