STATEMENT OF CASE

The defendant, Kevin Powell, plead not guilty to a charge of purse snatching, a violation of La. R.S. 14:65.1. He pled not guilty on October 28, 1996. The defendant's first trial ended in mistrial on May 28, 1998 and he was re-tried on October 15, 1998, after which the jury found him guilty as charged. He was sentenced on November 6, 1998, to twenty years at hard labor, with credit for time served, sentence to be served consecutively...
