This is a direct appeal by the defendant, Genevevo Navarro, from his conviction of the premeditated first-degree murder of Michael Burkes. Navarro was sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole for 25 years. He appeals pursuant to K.S.A. 22-3601(b)(1).
