{1} These consolidated appeals present us with the opportunity to examine the arbitration process in the context of the increasing demand for and dependence on methods of alternative dispute resolution. Specifically, we address the extent of an arbitrator's authority under the Arbitration Act, NMSA 1978, §§ 44-7-1 to -22 (1971).1
