As a result of a series of events that ended with a high-speed police chase of a white Ford van on November 14, 1999, Defendant-Appellant Bryan E. Brown, also known as Bryan E. Johnson, (Brown) was arrested for, and subsequently found guilty by a jury of: (1) Unauthorized Control of Propelled Vehicle, in violation of Hawaii Revised Statutes (HRS) § 708-836 (1993 & Supp.2000)1
