The defendant has appealed from his convictions of voluntary manslaughter (on an indictment which charged him with murder in the first degree), assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm, and unlawful discharge of a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling.

On appeal, the defendant argues that the trial judge committed error in allowing the prosecutor to question him and three defense witnesses about their failures...
